Description
A comforting and indulgent dish with layers of thinly sliced potatoes in a creamy garlic sauce topped with cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the greased dish.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour in the heavy cream and add the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir until the cheese melts into a smooth sauce.
- Drizzle half of the cheese sauce over the first layer of potatoes.
- Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes followed by the rest of the cheese sauce, ensuring to finish with a generous layer of cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving for a lovely pop of color.
Notes
You can substitute cheddar cheese with Gruyère or mozzarella. For lighter options, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
