Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup Bisquick (or self-rising flour)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Optional for serving: ketchup, mustard, pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Drain excess fat, season with salt and pepper, then spread the mixture in the pie dish.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together Bisquick, milk, and eggs until smooth and lump-free.
  6. Pour the batter over the meat and cheese. Tap the dish gently on the counter.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serve with condiments.

Notes

For a lighter version, use lean ground turkey. Can substitute Bisquick with homemade mix of all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
