- 1 cup Buttermilk (or substitute with milk and a splash of lemon juice)
- 1 cup Flour (gluten-free option available)
- 1 tbsp Paprika (smoked preferred)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 0.5 tsp Cayenne Pepper (more if you like it spicy!)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 2 medium Sweet Onions (Vidalia or Texas sweets)
- Cooking Spray or Oil for misting
Instructions
- Prepare the onions: Peel and trim the tops, making four deep cuts to create a flower shape.
- Soak the onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and enhance flavor.
- Mix the coating: Combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Coat the onions with the flour mixture after soaking.
- Air Fry at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For best results, do not overcrowd the air fryer and allow ample soaking time for flavor and texture.
