- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- Additional olive oil for drizzling
- Fresh herbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix together the flour, salt, minced garlic, and olive oil in a larger mixing bowl.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it looks smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, about 60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) as the dough rises.
- Once risen, gently spread the dough onto a greased baking sheet, pressing it out to about a 1-inch thickness.
- Create dimples all over the surface of the dough with your fingers, then drizzle with olive oil.
- Sprinkle the shredded Parmesan cheese on top, and add fresh herbs if desired.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the focaccia turns golden brown and aroma fills the kitchen.
- Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a healthier twist, consider using whole wheat flour or substituting fresh garlic with roasted garlic. This focaccia pairs well with marinara sauce, herb-infused olive oil, or can be made into a sandwich.
